Team GB Team Up

We’re proudly supporting Local Team GB swimmer Brodie Williams in the build-up to the rescheduled Olympics. We spoke to Brodie about the effect lockdown has had on the Olympic deam and his training schedule:

“My 2020 season came abruptly to an end in March when they announced that the Olympic trials set to be in April were cancelled due to the corona virus pandemic. Soon after we were in full lockdown and unable to go to the pool.

It was a weird period in time as for 3-4 weeks the Olympics still was going ahead as planned with minimum news of cancellation. For this reason it was important for me to even outside the pool work hard on my cardio and maintaining my strength by doing gym work in my garage. It was difficult to stay focused on a goal that got more and more unlikely to happen and when the news broke I had 2 weeks completely off to reflect and plan my Olympic cycle again.

During lockdown I came to the decision to relocate from my home club Millfield school to the national training centre in Bath. After staying behind 3 years after my A levels and swimming full time at Millfield I believe I was ready to move to a senior programe.

Towards the end of May I was lucky enough to be invited as part of the Phase 1 return to elite training. It was unusual at first as I had to move out my lifelong home into a 3 bedroom in Bath with 2 other swimmers, but Ive really enjoyed the independence. Getting in back in the water was challenging to start all over again and regain my fitness from the ground up. However the 10 week break made me realise how lucky I was to even be in this position of doing what I love day in day out, and I was extremely grateful to be back.

With Toyota, Somerset County Cars, supporting me by letting me drive a gorgeous white Aygo Express has enabled me to travel to training and back home without borrowing my mums car which i have kindly returned now! I genuinely look forward to driving to training early morning, especially with the new car play feature. My favourite thing is using siri to find songs with little hassle!

Just want to say a massive thank you to Toyota and the team at Somerset County Cars in Yeovil for giving me this opportunity.”

We’re delighted to be able to help Brodie stay mobile, we’ll be sharing details of his training and event progress across our Social Media channels and here on our website.
